Our life supporting elements- sun, air, water, are turning against us! No doubt, we are also to be blamed!

The polluted environment around us is triggering diseases that are affecting a huge number of people. Overexposure to the sun and ionizing radiation at work are also damaging our health. 

Environmental illnesses are merciless – they do not spare any age group. Kidney problems, sunburns, heart diseases, asthma, diarrheal problems, respiratory infections, malaria, cancer, lead poisoning, alzheimer’s disease, osteoporosis, diabetes and even birth defects in infants – environment can affect you in many more ways than you thought!

Although you are at the risk of catching these diseases no matter where you go, awareness of their prevention methods can help you ward them off. 

Avoid air pollution

Exposure to air pollution causes respiratory illnesses such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and lung cancer. You can also have different eye problems due to the exposure to air pollutants. Wear a mask and goggles to ward off problems caused by air pollution. Also, avoid cigarette smoke, replace gas stoves with electric ones and ensure good ventilation system at your home.

Watch your Water

Drinking polluted water can cause cancer, kidney issues, allergies and diarrheal diseases. To avoid all such problems, drink boiled or purified water.

Eat healthily

Chemically laced fruits and vegetables invite liver and lung cancers, asthma, obesity & various mental problems. Eating from street vendors can also cause diarrhea and liver problems. So, go organic and if eating outside, be assured of the hygiene of the place.

Avoid ultraviolet (UV) rays

Overexposure to sunlight can cause skin cancer or other skin issues. Wearing sunscreen and protective clothes before while going outside can prove helpful for you.

Lead leads to Bad health

Lead is found in lead-based paints which include wall paints and art supplies, toys and contaminated dust. It can cause both mental and physical impairment and can even be fatal. Don’t let children put any object from the floor or walls in their mouths; check the quality of toys and colours, test water for lead levels.

Stay away from ionizing radiation

Exposure to ionizing radiation causes 1 percent of all cancers as per estimates. To avoid ionizing radiation, you should stay away from power lines and spend lesser time using electric devices.

Furthermore, avoiding too much noise is also crucial for you as noise pollution can cause heart diseases, hypertension, stress & hearing problems. You should also wash hands often and exercise every day to reduce the risk of different environmental diseases. 

Along with it, show responsibility to improve the environment to curb the risk of environmentally triggered diseases. Because every drop counts in the ocean!
