Our Own Health Agenda!  Taking Charge on the Health Front.

India gets its own  ‘Fit India Charter’

Twitterati and National Headlines are abuzz with enthusiasm and ambition. Celebrities are endorsing it. Sportsmen are being recognised and the government is widely hailing it as India’s ‘Mission Health’ revival.

This is the right  time to take this collaborative initiative to hit at unfit habits.

Mindset has to change

Many of us have a stationary exercise bicycle, treadmill, or even a fully equipped gym at home – but not the enthusiasm. It is actually a combination of lack of awareness, bent of mind, lack of opportunities (for example, open spaces), urban stress, and putting higher priorities for job, family and exams that keeps us deprioritizing our exercise regimen. Right? No wonder diabetes and heart disease is striking young people in their 20s-30s.

In a published consensus statement, experts opined that Indian bodies need more exercise. It may just require slight tweaks in our everyday lifestyle, and devoting time for physical activity, recreation. Putting  the responsibility of public health only on the shoulders of Professionals is not enough.

Daily exercise is a must for every individual to combat more than 20 diseases including diabetes, heart attacks , cancer, and in 3 out of 10 people, even early death. So, what do we keep waiting for?

Right Now and Here

  • Fitness is our birthright and we shall have it. Exercise is the cheapest, easiest and most convenient lifesaver. Spare those 30 minutes that could also mean 10 minutes 3 times a day
  • No need to  kill yourself running, jogging, etc, but include some sort of moderate physical activity in everyday life. For example, go on a walk at a brisk pace Or jog. Yoga.
  • Ensure to stay hydrated, stretch, and eat healthy  in form of green, fibre rich vegetables to keep the digestive system clean
  • Pacing in the room, short walk after lunch, taking a walk while discussing work or even dictating a letter, taking the stairs, walking to the Metro after hectic meetings, etc. – (At Work)
  • Try planning out eating six times a day and set smaller portions, rather than having three large meals to help you find breathing smoother when working out
  • Sleep enough to recharge the body’s batteries. Most healthy adults on average require between 7-9 hours of sleep per night
  • Physicians must make a point to record Exercise as an Investigative question & Instruction, Corporate must hail Healthy & Fit Executives. – (Collaboration & Culture)
  • Stay Motivated. A Positive step taken today is Future of our families, our country

Remember, there is nothing better to substitute awareness, willingness and desire to stay fit.
