Let’s Bust C-Section Myths

So many thoughts trouble you if you are pregnant and especially if it is your first pregnancy…

Will I complete the term?

Normal or C sec?

How painful would it be?

And the biggest one…..Will it be Okay to have a C-Sec?

Delivering a baby is momentous and holds paramount importance for every mother’s wellbeing. But the Indian society, in general, is biased against C-Sec deliveries. There are many misconceptions that surround C-Sec – they confuse people and even make this procedure look devilish. Let’s debunk these myths!

Myth 1: One can’t breastfeed post C – section

If someone tells you this myth, stop him/her with an instant ‘no’ as your delivery method doesn’t prevent you from breastfeeding the newborn. Post a caesarean section, you can find it tough to breastfeed the baby due to having cuts on the body. However, you can learn a comfortable position from the nurse to get started.

Myth 2: You cannot give vaginal birth after C – section

This is one of the most common myths doing rounds in India when it comes to delivering a child. Hence, giving birth through C – section doesn’t mean you cannot deliver a child vaginally in the future. It is very much possible and the procedure of attempting vaginal birth after caesarean section is called VBAC (vaginal birth after caesarean section).

Myth 3: Undergoing C – section doesn’t let you have skin to skin contact

It is evident that having skin to skin contact with your baby after delivery stabilizes his/her breath and temperature. That makes it must for you to make skin to skin contact with your newborn and rest assured that doing this is not impossible. You can learn the right way to hold the kid from a nurse and also make sure to keep him/her away from scars.

Myth 4: C – section doesn’t let you feel anything

During the caesarean section, surgeons give you anesthesia, hence you will not feel pain. However, feeling some tugging and pressure on abdomen is pretty normal. So, don’t panic if you feel the same while undergoing a C – section.

Myth 5: You can’t recover quickly from C – section

Not true! After giving birth through C – section procedure, women are advised to move their body to prevent further complications. You will definitely need some help while doing some work initially, but you don’t need to stay on bed all the time.

Myth 6: Undergoing C – section is trouble-free

According to the medical experts, going for normal delivery is the best as it is a natural process. However, C- section becomes a necessity in the case of multiple children, complications during labor or risk of an infection. Recovery in case of C section takes a bit longer. But recovery is possible!

We hope, this write-up has busted all the myths from your mind regarding C – section delivery method. So, opt for a delivery method keeping your and child’s wellbeing in mind to rejoice motherhood forever.
