Plants have always been vital to man’s survival. This is not something out of place to trust them for their mental healing properties when as per beliefs they have been actively treating multiple physical traumas of our ancestry with minimal side effects.

Plant Therapy combines the power of certain plants to heal various mental ailments such as depression & anxiety. It lowers the stress level, improves our coping mechanism in day to day life. This therapy works very methodically and has to be customised as per personal preferences and personality types but we must not expect express results.

Take up Gardening – it’s so healthy! 

Gardening works for majority of us – all genders & age groups. Infact, the concept of plant therapy is about doubling the mental health cure results in sync with nature. Various other plus points of gardening are:

  • self-esteem boosting properties
  • bonding with the universe 

Step out in Green Surroundings

We were not supposed to be living in closed set-ups, with the artificial lights glaring in our eyes 24/7. It could take a toll on our mental & physical health in due course of time. You don’t need to even have a green thumb to experience the medicinal benefits of plants. One gets the same results by even spending some time in the greenery. So, step out and take a stroll for about half an hour in the nearest garden if you ever feel anxious or stressed.

Take up these activities 

  • Go on a weekend camping trip with couple of nature loving friends. You would feel more calm, in a better mood and recharged
  • Practice yoga or exercise around greenery
  • Read while  just sitting on a park bench, lying on the grass or even do nothing
  • Bike, walk or hike in the natural surroundings

Aromatherapy is the use of plant oils to strengthen your moods, over all health and mental state of  mind. Few of them are believed to be improving the symptoms of depression and anxiety while mixed in bath or applied topically while massage, like:

  • Lavender
  • Rose, oils 

Eating Right Plants  

The studies show that the plant based diet has comparatively fewer symptoms of anxiety, stress,mood and depression.Thus, it helps to include plenty of fruits, vegetables and whole grains in our regular diet.

Plants can improve your mental health with the activities undertaken, such as gardening, spending some constructive time in greens doing exercise or just strolling in addition to implementing healthy diet. While green plants aid the mental health and recovery, it is  still very important to acquire clinical help for ailments like depression and anxiety.
