Urinary Tract Infection (UTI)

Urinary tract infections are common, especially among women. UTIs occur when bacteria in the digestive tract and around the anus get into the urethra, the tube that carries urine from the bladder. These bacteria cause an infection in the urethra, the bladder, or both. If not treated, UTIs can cause painful and dangerous kidney infections. UTIs usually are easy to detect, but some have no symptoms. In case a UTI develops into a kidney infection, symptoms of pain in side or back, along with chills, fever, or vomiting can be noticed.

WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS OF URINARY TRACT INFECTION?

Fever, Blood in urine, Difficulty starting urination, frequent urge to urinate, pain with urination, cloudy urine with strong smell, frequent urination, urine leaking (incontinence), feeling of pressure or fullness in the bladder

DIAGNOSIS & TREATMENT

Treatment: Treatment of UTI includes a course of antibiotics and drinking lots of water and fluids.

Home Care: On noticing signs of bladder irritation, person should try drinking more water and/or cranberry juice. Cranberry juice helps prevent bacteria from sticking to the bladder lining. Increase intake of vitamin C and A. Wear loose clothing.
