WHAT IS BRONCHITIS
Bronchitis is an inflammation of the bronchial tubes, the large airways leading from the throat into the lungs. This common condition causes a cough that produces mucus. Bronchitis usually comes and goes within a few days. Cold viruses are the most common cause of bronchitis, but it can also be caused by bacteria. Some people, usually smokers, develop chronic bronchitis, which never goes away completely.
WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS OF BRONCHITIS
Cough, Fever, Sore throat, Wheezing, Pain, Shortness of breath, Tightness, Difficulty in breathing from the nose
DIAGNOSIS & TREATMENT
Diagnosis: A review of patient’ smedical history and physical examination can diagnose bronchitis. Further lung tests and/or X-rays may be done to rule out pneumonia asthma.
Treatment: Treatment may include:
Rest
Drinking lot of fluids
Breathing in warm, moist air
Over-the-counter pain relievers and fever medicines
Medications to help reduce coughing and open airways
Antibiotics don't help in case of viral bronchitis is viral, such as when it's due to a cold. But antibiotics may be prescribed if mucous is thick and yellow, or if the symptoms are severe or persistent.
Usually viral bronchitis can be treated at home by waiting it out and using home remedies,over the counter pain relievers and cough suppressants.
Stop smoking, it can aggravate bronchitis
If symptoms last longer than 3 to 5 days, along with fever and wheezing, go see your doctor.
