WHAT IS CHOLERA

Cholera is a bacterial infection that causes diarrhea, nausea and vomiting. In some cases due to extreme dehydration people can also die. Cholera is spread by contaminated food or water with the bacterium Vibrio cholerae. It’s mostly prevalent in developing countries.  

WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS OF CHOLERA  

Some common symptoms of cholera are diarrhea, dehydration - feeling thirsty, weakness, fever, nausea and/or vomiting

DIAGNOSIS & TREATMENT

Diagnosis: A physical examination followed by review of medical history and investigations such as blood or stool tests may be used to diagnose cholera. 

Treatment: Cholera is normally treated with oral or IV fluids. In some cases antibiotics may also be prescribed.
