WHAT IS COMMON COLD
Common cold is one of the most common illnesses in the world. It’s a viral infection of the upper respiratory tract, which includes the nose and sinuses, mouth, and throat. There are several hundred known viruses that cause colds, as a result we can’t build immunity to colds. Colds spread easily from person to person. Most colds get cured on their own in a few days.
WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS OF COMMON COLD.
Symptoms may include sore throat, stuffy or runny nose, headache, body pain, cough, fever, hoarseness of voice, fatigue, watery eyes and difficulty in breathing through the nose.
DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT
Diagnosis: A physical examination by a Doctor, followed by a review of medical history, potential source of infection. In some cases blood test may be required to rule out other infections with symptoms similar to common cold.
Treatment: Common colds normally heals on its own in a few days. Medications may be required to ease the symptoms such as antihistamines, decongestants, pain relievers, drinking plenty of fluids, saline gargles and breathing in steam.
In case of fever above 102 degrees Fahrenheit, chills, vomiting, shortness of breath, stomach pain, get checked by a Doctor. Also, in case where a cold hasnt healed after 7-10 days medical help is advised.
