What is Glaucoma
Glaucoma is an eye disease that can cause vision loss. If fluid gets trapped and builds up in the eye, the pressure can damage the optic nerve. There are several types. Open-angle glaucoma is the most common; it develops slowly over years, starting with darkness at the edges of your vision. Health problems, medications, and inherited genetic conditions can cause glaucoma. For any type of glaucoma, good treatment will help prevent further vision loss.
Symptoms of Glaucoma are-
Blind spot in vision, Blurred vision, Nausea or vomiting, Change in vision, Visual halos around lights, Pain or discomfort, Loss of side vision, Red (bloodshot) eyes, Partial vision loss
Treatment-
Treatments for glaucoma include:
1.Eyedrops and medications to lower pressure
2.Laser treatment to allow the fluid to drain
3.Surgery
When to See Your Doctor
If you notice any vision changes, see a doctor, and have regular checkups to detect glaucoma without symptoms. Acute angle-closure glaucoma is an emergency. If you have symptoms such as intense pain in the eye, cloudy vision, and vomiting, get to a hospital right away.
