What is Osteomyelitis
Osteomyelitis is an infection of a bone that causes pain, swelling, and redness. The infection may get to the bone through the blood, through nearby tissues, or through an injury -- such as surgery or a puncture wound. It's most common in children. While osteomyelitis is serious, treatment -- with antibiotics and sometimes surgery -- usually cures the condition. Getting medical attention quickly is key. Less serious conditions can cause many of the same symptoms.
