Treating Oily skin in Men at Home

Treating Oily skin in Men at Home

While the shine and glow in general reflects healthy skin, your love and zest for life. It is embarrassing to have face that is oily and shines greasily all the same mostly. Oily facial skin also indicates the onset of acne in near future. Meaning bringing down the boys’ zest for socialising and happy times. So, what did I do to ease my social embarrassment and did it work for me?

To begin with, I did some quick fact findings on male oily skin and i was surprised to discover that men happen to be more prone to oily skin because of abundant androgens- the male hormones. I always thought it was all about women and their hormones. Well, coming back to the subject, if usually the oil is produced by our body to lubricate the skin or nourish it, when the sebum secretion gets excessive, it may block our skin pores and act as a breeding ground for bacteria that may cause acne.

Quick tips that I laid my hand on to treat extra oil on my skin are as follows and yes, they did wonders for me.

I gave up on oily food

I altogether avoided any oily foods – that extra dash of butter or ghee on my favorite paper dosa or gobhi parathas.I went slow on deep fried dishes and made sure to have only the grilled lean meats- chicken or my favorite fish. No egg yolk too for me.

I started using non oily face lotions and creams

A quick consultation with my dermatologist got me prescription for light lotion based moisturisers i could do with instead of using everyday cosmetic facial lotions and creams. He told me that regular creams and moisturisers may have lanolin or paraffin elements and they could block skin pores typically for people with oily skin.

I became a fan of Aloe Vera

I had heard aloe vera to be a great skin healer, a great natural moisturiser, and an ideal treatment for treating blemishes and patches on skin. I did use it to believe it. And now I vouch for it. I started applying aloe vera as a night cream and it worked for me.

Antibacterial properties of lemon did wonders for me

This became my evening ritual to apply a couple of drops of lemon on my face diluted with rose water and glycerine. Rinse dry my face before sleep. This, I believe helped absorbing extra oil and tightened the skin pores eventually.

I started applying raw honey on my skin

It was as simple to apply some raw honey on my face, let it naturally dry and then rinse it off with fresh water. This will act as an antiseptic and antibacterial shield over my skin and I discovered my naturally nourished, well balanced skin thanks to raw honey.

And! First time in my life – you know what? Now, I use a face wash

Pollution too causes oily skin. So I was told by my doctor that people with oily skin must wash their face little more often with a regular face wash to avoid side effects of dust and germs in the air. In my case, he prescribed me a face wash with medicinal properties.

You too can try all above things! Get healthy and acne free skin like me. Enjoy partying.
