What Causes Lack of Alertness?

A lack of focus or concentration makes any work at hand doubly difficult, no matter how simple. There are always so many things to tempt you away from the task at hand. However, while concentration is difficult, most of us do manage to rein in our brains and FOCUS. But how?
Here we tell you about the reasons why you could be losing alertness and the ways to reclaim it :
Not getting enough shut-eye
A bad night’s sleep can make you unproductive and fuzzy. Chronic insomnia can lead to further long-term problems. So, do pay attention if you have trouble catching up on sleep.
It could be Stress
Studies prove that stress and anxiety can actually impair mental function. Higher the levels of stress- greater the impaired cognitive function and it affects short term memory too.
Depression affects focus and concentration
In fact, stress and depression are one of the most common symptoms that disrupt any task that requires alertness and mental agility.
Hormonal fluctuations
Basically true in case of women, hormonal imbalances could have an effect on our mental abilities. Similarly, the onset of menopause can also lead our brain to behave weirdly and reduce mental sharpness and focus.
Alcohol or drug abuse will affect your alertness
Addiction to alcohol or recreational drugs may impair the brain function as a long-term effect. Over time, these cause the brain to work less efficiently and certain psychoactive drugs may trigger mental illnesses that you never had such as schizophrenia , hallucination, paranoia and hearing voices in head, etc.
Miscellaneous , other reasons on losing out on alertness
Stroke, Thyroid problems and Anaemia are some of the other conditions that could affect our alert state of mind.
Feeling out of the game lately, run yourself through any of the causes mentioned above. Chances are they may be the culprit. If not seek help.
